- Dep Registrar also fingered
From Emmanuel Adeyemi, Lokoja
No fewer than five staff of the Kogi State Polytechnic Lokoja have been suspended including a deputy registrar ( names with-held) while five non other staff have been arrested with one staff on the run over certificate forgery and other sensitive documents falsification in the institution
In a press Conference addressed by the Rector, Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman on Thursday evening in Lokoja, he
described the development as “disheartening,” coming at a time when the institution was recording significant progress in its reform and quality assurance drive.
According to him the fraud was uncovered following intelligence reports and routine verification exercises carried out by the Admission, ICT, and Security Units of the institution. A detailed investigation, conducted in collaboration with relevant law enforcement agencies, reportedly exposed “shocking levels of audacity and deceit.”
Some suspects forged National Diploma (ND) results in the name of Kogi State Polytechnic and had the temerity to apply for Higher National Diploma (HND) admission in the same institution using the forged ND results,” he said.
He further disclosed that others went as far as forging both ND and HND results and attempted to collect original certificates for the same fabricated results from the institution.
Prof. Ogbo said the culprits compromised internal security arrangements and tampered with the security features on the school’s official Statements of Result.adding ” Some result processors were also accused of colluding to prepare results for individuals with multiple carryovers who refused to sit for their examinations, thereby portraying them falsely as graduates”.
“These criminal acts represent an assault on the credibility and reputation of our institution, and they cannot be allowed to go unpunished,” the management said.
According to the Rector of the Polytechnic:
“The recent cases uncovered in this regards are:
“Amina Mustapha — Allegedly never a student of the Polytechnic but forged ND and HND results and attempted to obtain an original certificate in connivance with some members of staff in the Examinations Unit.
“Mfon Asuquo — A former student who absconded with multiple carryovers but fraudulently obtained a Statement of Result and attempted to collect an original certificate with the assistance of staff members in the same Unit.
“Dansuma Mercy Sunday — Allegedly conspired with Abubakar Musa (Matric No. 2024/HND/URP/052) and others to falsify records and process results illegally with one Henry Tope, a former student identified as the mastermind of the syndicate forging statement of results”.
Prof Ogbo said all the suspects have been handed over to the police for further investigation and possible prosecution while internal disciplinary measures are underway for any staff members found complicit in the fraudulent acts.
He reaffirmed the polytechnic management’s commitment to maintaining transparency, discipline, and the integrity of its academic processes, assuring the public that such acts of misconduct will never be tolerated.
