From Emmanuel Adeyemi, Lokoja
The Chairman of the Kogi State Internal Revenue Service, Alh. Saliu Sule Enehe, has said the internal revenue generation of Kogi State has greatly improved from less than N10 billion per annum to over N36 billion.
The revenue boss made this revelation yesterday while featuring in the Correspondents’ Chapel programme of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Kogi State Council, tagged ‘Stewardship Forum’.
Enehe said when he took over as the chairman of the Revenue Service of the state in 2021, the internally generated revenue was barely N750 million per month (that is, less than N10 billion per annum), but when he came, he devised his rich professional knowledge and administrative acumen to increase the revenue to an average of N3 billion per month (that is, about N36 billion per annum).
He said he discovered that lack of incentives, absence of staff welfare, and low morale of workers were some of the factors that caused low generation of revenue in the organisation, and he therefore swiftly formulated policies that took charge of them.
According to the revenue boss, some of the policies he formulated and implemented include the mass promotion of deserving staff, the introduction of training and retraining programmes, giving awards to exceptionally distinguished workers, and carrying along all the staff through the day-to-day running of the organisation.
In his words, “When I came on board, I ensured I devised an open-door policy, carrying along every department and staff regardless of their gender, religion, or wherever they came from. I practically acted on what I said and led by example.

“For example, I didn’t only tell my staff to trust me, but I displayed it; I didn’t only tell them I am a man of integrity, I acted it because I transparently accounted for every kobo collected and dealt with everyone with fairness, equity, and justice.
“I made it clear to everyone that I will never compromise on any form of corruption and that I am ready to resign my appointment at any time I am found wanting, but I also let them realise that whosoever is found wanting will be eased out, no matter how highly placed, as I eschew favouritism, godfatherism, and any form of nepotism.”
While giving his achievements, he disclosed that aside from the stagnant promotion of staff before he came on board, he introduced a new salary scale for all the workers, carried out comprehensive renovations and repairs in the headquarters office, established more area offices, and equipped them.
“I also upgraded the ICT department with modern equipment; our revenue system is now automated, and you can pay your tax or do any business with us in the comfort of your home without necessarily coming to the office, and I ensured that all revenue leakages are blocked.
“I also purchased new vehicles for directors and new vehicles for operations and retooled all our departments for effective and efficient productivity, carrying out our own corporate social responsibility within the reach of our resources.”
Enehe, who reiterated his commitment to ban illegal roadblocks in the state where thugs collect revenues from motorists, called on the general public to report anyone found carrying out the act to the police or its various offices in the state.
