Knockout ties confirmed as Scotland suffer blow

Scotland

The United States were on the receiving end of a dramatic 3-2 defeat to Turkiye in their final World Cup group fixture, but have still managed to top their group.

Elsewhere, Paraguay and Australia played out a goalless draw in San Francisco, while Japan and Sweden drew 1-1 to see the points shared in Dallas.

The Netherlands claimed a 3-1 victory over Tunisia to secure their place at the top of their group.

Ecuador stunned Germany 2-1 to reach the Round of 32 of the World Cup. The South Americans needed a victory to progress into the knockout stages, but the results will have come as a blow for the Tartan Army.

The win has seen Scotland’s hopes substantially fading, as the team had been relying on the results of other teams to make their way into the last qualifying 32. It means their chances of reaching knockouts for the first time have sadly dropped from 42 percent to 5.6 percent.
