Killings: Nwifuru relaxes curfew in Ebonyi community

Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru has relaxed the curfew in Amasiri community, Afikpo Local Government of the state over the killings and destructions in Akpoha and Okporojo Oso Edda in the Afikpo and Edda Local Governments of the state.

He said the curfew will now run from 6pm to 7am against 10am to 12pm it was before. The Governor disclosed this while briefing journalists after the state security council meeting which was attended by the security chiefs in the state.

He said security agencies have arrested some suspects in connection with the killings and that the suspects who have been in detention, will immediately be arraigned.

“The Ebonyi State Security Council met on February 17, 2026, at the Executive Council Chamber, Government House, Abakaliki. At the meeting, the Council reviewed the curfew earlier imposed on Amasiri Autonomous Community. After careful deliberation and consideration of ongoing investigations, as well as progress made by security agencies, the Council adjusted the curfew to run from 6:pm to 7:am daily.

“The Council deliberated on key measures required to restore total normalcy to Amasiri, Okporojo and Akpoha autonomous communities.

“It resolved that urgent steps must be taken to demonstrate government’s commitment to protecting lives and property.

“The Council further agreed that all persons arrested in connection with the crisis between the affected communities should be charged to court without delay, rather than remaining in police custody.

“A lot people have been arrested in connection with the killings. Some of them came to this security Council meeting from detention to give us information, they were brought from cell to talk to us.

“We are also stretching our hands to get those who are not in the cells and get them arrested too”, he said.
