As the people of Zazzaga community in Munya local government area of Niger state continue to relocate in their hundreds following the activities of Kidnappers in the area, gunmen in the early hours of yesterday attacked the fleeing community and kidnapped three people.
A 54 year old Musa Adamu was shot dead by the kidnappers when he attempted to rescue wives of his son who were among those kidnapped.
The latest incidence is coming barely 72 hours after the community paid about N10million ramsom to secure the release of five out of the ten members of the community who are still in custody of the kidnappers.
The latest incidence took place at Gidan Banobi village, about 10 kilometers from Sarkin Pawa, the headquarters of Munya local government area at about 2:00am.
60-year-old Amina Mohammed, was however lucky as she was released midway into the journey by the kidnappers who gave her their telephone numbers to give to the families of victims for possible negotiations.
The district head of Zazzaga, Musa Umoru, who confirmed the latest attack to our correspondent on phone said the attackers were earlier repelled from a nearby village sabon Gidan by members of the local vigilante before moving to Banobi village to wreck the havoc.
“These villages are among the few villages that the people are yet to move out, people have relocated from every other village in this community in the last one month.
“As I speak with you people are moving their properties away to neighboring villages because the government has refused to come to our aids.
“My people have sold everything they have to pay ransom, including our farm produce. We have made several complaints to the police but they have not done anything”.
The district head disclosed that the entire Zazzaga community with about 50 villages and a population of over 1000 inhabitants has only one police post with only two policemen and without a gun.
The Police Public Relation Officer, Niger state Police Command, ASP Peter Sunday, said that combined force of the Nigerian and the Army have been drafted to comb the area to rescue those kidnapped.
