At an age when many would understandably retreat into the quiet comforts of private life, Sir Kessington Adebunola Adebutu, the Odoole of Yorubaland, continues to demonstrate that generosity need not grow weary with age. If anything, it appears to have become an even more deeply ingrained part of his identity.
At 91, the billionaire businessman remains a man whose heart beats to the rhythm of humanity. For the philanthropist, giving is not an occasional gesture reserved for special occasions; it is a way of life, a cherished hobby practised with remarkable ease and, perhaps more aptly, a second skin.

Fondly known as Baba Ijebu, Adebutu has made generosity an enduring signature, dispensing kindness without fanfare and supporting humanity without appearing to break a sweat. For him, philanthropy comes naturally, almost as effortlessly as breathing, and he does it without blinking an eyelid. His 91st birthday celebration offered yet another testament to this enduring commitment to giving.
A day before marking the birthday two Saturdays ago, the respected businessman donated a multi-billion-naira state-of-the-art building to the Lagos State Security Trust Fund.
For a man who has spent decades building an impressive business empire, the donation was a reminder that his interests extend beyond the boardroom and the pursuit of wealth. It reflected a philosophy that places considerable value on giving back to society and leaving behind tangible contributions that outlive the celebrations of the moment.
The gift to Lagos State stood as more than a birthday gesture. It was another expression of a familiar creed: that true wealth is not measured solely by what a man accumulates, but also by what he gives away in the service of humanity.
