Kenya claimed a double at the Antrim International as the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Cross Country Permit season continued in Northern Ireland.

Timothy Cheruiyot won the men’s race over 7,200 metres as Margaret Chelimo Kipkemboi triumphed in the women’s over 5,400m.

Cheruiyot, who won 1,500m silver on the track at the World Championships in London last year, pipped Mogos Tuemay of Ethiopia after a sprint finish.

Both men were timed at 23min 12sec but the Kenyan got the nod.

Morocco’s Soufiane Elbakkali, a World Championship silver medallist in London in the 3,000m steeplechase, was third in 23:32.

Kipkemboi held off Ethiopia’s Fotyen Tesfay to win in 19.55 by a margin of one second.

Bontu Edao Rebitu, who runs for Bahrain, was third in 19.59.

The Campaccio-International Cross Country in San Giorgio su Legnano in Italy, another leg on the IAAF Cross Country Permit series, also took place today.
