From Olanrewaju Lawal, Birnin Kebbi
A member of the House of Representatives representing Birnin Kebbi, Kalgo and Bunza Federal Constituency, Ibrahim Mohammed Bello, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The federal lawmaker said his decision was informed by the persistent leadership crisis and internal conflicts rocking the PDP.
Bello in a statement issued to newsmen to announcing his defection, explained that the opposition party has been facing unresolved leadership challenges and prolonged litigations, which he said have weakened its ability to function as a credible political platform.
According to him, the lingering crisis has made it difficult for committed members to meaningfully contribute to the party’s growth and democratic responsibilities.
He further revealed that after extensive consultations with his constituents and key political stakeholders, he decided to join the APC in what he described as the best interest of the people he represents.
The lawmaker added that the move would further strengthen his capacity to provide effective representation and better democratic dividends to the people of Birnin Kebbi, Kalgo and Bunza Federal Constituency.
Ibrahim confirmed that his resignation letter has been submitted to the PDP Ward Chairman of Nasarawa 1 Ward, while the Speaker of the House of Representatives has also been formally notified of his defection.
