From Ola Muhammad, Birnin Kebbi

The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Kebbi State chapter, has commended Governor Nasir Idris for improving teachers’ welfare and investing in basic education.

The state chairman, Zaki Sarki, in a statement in Birnin Kebbi to mark the 2026 World Teachers’ Day, cited improved remuneration, provision of teaching aids, construction and renovation of classrooms, and recruitment of teachers.

Sarki also praised teachers for their resilience amid the country’s economic challenges, saying their continued commitment to classroom duties deserved recognition.

“We salute teachers’ resilience. Despite economic challenges, they have refused to abandon their classrooms, so today is your day and we celebrate you as you mark the 2026 World Teachers’ Day,” he said.

He described teachers as central to nation building, noting that they trained the doctors, nurses, engineers and entrepreneurs who sustain society and the economy.

A country without teachers, he said, “is an empty nation with empty technology and science.”

Sarki urged teachers to review and improve their classroom practices for better learning outcomes, while assuring them of the union’s continued support.

He said the NUT would pursue teachers’ rights and privileges through lawful engagement with the relevant authorities.
