The newly deployed Commissioner of Police to the Kebbi State Police Command, Mr Magaji Ahmed Kontogara, has vowed to fight bandits and other criminals to stand still in the state.
Kontagora, who stated this during a press briefing with reporters at the police headquarters, Birnin Kebbi, also set himself a target of 30 percent reduction in the state’s crime rate within a month in office.
The new chief of police explained that before his deployment as commissioner, he had been following events in the state, particularly the activities of bandits and other criminal elements.
According to him, “this administration mission is zero-level tolerance for crime. I hereby wish to use this medium to warn all criminals in the state and those nursing the ambition to take crime to have a rethink and leave the state for their own good.
“This administration is going to be fair to all and sundry, irrespective of tribe race status in the society; we are going to put an end to all cases of human rights violations, extortion by policemen among other issues in the state.”

Kontagora, who urged the officers and men of the Command to brace up for the challenge ahead, said that he would not condone corruption.
“This administration will not condone any form of corruption and act of indiscipline from officers and men in this Command. We are going to police the policemen to ensure that they are doing what is expected of them at all times.
“We are going to partner with community, religious leaders, opinion moulders, local vigilantes, the press and other stakeholders to fight crime and criminality in the state,” he declared.
Commissioner Kontagora appealed to the general public to feel free to volunteer useful information to curb crime, stressing that his intention is to bring crime rate down 30 per cent in the first month and by 75 per cent in the next three months.
While rolling out his strategies, he explained that he is going to implement a series of intelligence-driven crimes prevention tactics, encourage community policing and community safety partnership.
He added that his Command would also synergise with other law enforcement authorities, including the military, DSS, NSCDC and the NDLEA.
