Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris has intensified efforts towards ensuring adequate power supply for the socio-economic development of the state.

Idris, in a statement through his Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Alhaji Abdullahi Idris Zuru, made available to newsmen, disclosed that since the inception of his administration, he has been engaging experts in the power sector and investing huge amounts to ensure the people of the state enjoy adequate power supply.

According to the statement, “Since the assumption of office, the Comrade Governor has been engaging technical experts in electricity and put in huge resources aimed at improving the electricity supply with a view to achieving his ambitious industrialisation agenda.”

Zuru, who disclosed that the governor is currently in London, UK, where he was attending an International Energy Summit organised by KAEDCO, noted that the summit was aimed at boosting energy access and investment in the region.

He stated, “The Summit, with the theme, ‘Driving Energy Investment and Regional Development’, was being attended by senior government officials, energy experts, development partners, and private sector investors.

“They are expected to deliberate on unlocking the vast investment potential within (KAEDCO) franchise, with a focus on innovative strategies to strengthen power generation, transmission, and distribution, with a view to addressing critical challenges affecting energy access in the region.

“Parts of the highlight of the summit include discussion around the effective implementation of the 2023 Electricity Act, a landmark reform aimed at decentralising the power sector.”

Zuru said Governor Idris’s presence at the international forum underscores his proactive approach to economic growth and his commitment to energy sector reform, as well as attracting investment for electricity infrastructure.

“He is expected to engage, at side-room consultations, with credible investors on improving electricity infrastructure, ensuring a sustainable power supply with the capacity of supporting the industrialisation of the state, blessed with abundant agricultural products and large deposits of solid minerals.

It could be recalled that Governor Idris has implemented several initiatives to improve power supply.

These include the recent procurement of a 15MVA transformer worth over N650 million, approving N150 million monthly support for KAEDCO, procuring 40 transformers with accessories worth N520 million, and planning to procure an additional 40 transformers.
