Kebbi State Governor Dr Nasir Idris received dozens of members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Zuru Local Government Area who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Governor Idris received them during a political gathering in Zuru, where he welcomed them into the APC and assured them of equal opportunities to contribute to the development of Kebbi State.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, prominent ADC member, Anas Aliyu Gujiya, ADC House of Representatives aspirant, and Hussaini Aliyu of the Malami Support Organisation (MSO), said their decision to join the APC was driven by their desire to support the state government’s development agenda and contribute to improving the lives of the people.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Idris expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for making the occasion possible and commended the new members for their decision to join the ruling party.
He assured them that the APC remained open to all individuals willing to contribute to the progress, unity and development of Kebbi State.
The Governor acknowledged the security challenges confronting Kebbi State and the country at large, noting that insecurity was a broader national concern requiring collective action and sustained cooperation among governments, security agencies and communities.
He assured residents that his administration would continue to collaborate with security agencies and relevant stakeholders to strengthen security, restore peace and facilitate the safe return of displaced persons to their communities.
Idris urged the people to remain united and refrain from politicising security challenges, stressing that cooperation, mutual understanding and collective responsibility were essential to overcoming the situation.
He also expressed appreciation to the defectors for the confidence they had placed in his administration, citing their recognition of the government’s development initiatives as an encouragement to sustain its commitment to delivering democratic dividends.
The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to implement people-oriented projects and programmes in road infrastructure, healthcare, education and other critical sectors aimed at improving the living conditions of citizens.
Addressing concerns about road infrastructure, particularly the road linking communities in the area, including the Danko Wasagu axis, Governor Idris acknowledged the poor condition of some roads and assured residents that his administration would continue to pursue appropriate interventions, even where responsibility rests with the Federal Government.

He further appreciated political leaders, traditional rulers, community stakeholders and other individuals who had contributed to peacebuilding efforts, urging them to sustain their support for initiatives that would advance security and development across the state.
A prominent ADC member, Anas Aliyu Gujiya, ADC House of Representatives aspirant, with hundreds of his supporters, joined APC and donated four campaign vehicles to Governor Idris in support of his political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The donation, made during the event that featured the reception of the ADC defectors, was presented as a demonstration of Anas’s support for the Governor’s political aspirations.
While expressing support for the administration, Anas Aliyu appealed for sustained government attention to security challenges in Zuru Emirate, particularly in vulnerable communities and areas affected by banditry.
He called for strengthened security operations and the provision of necessary equipment to enhance the protection of lives and property.
He also appealed for continued investment in road infrastructure, water supply and other essential development projects to improve connectivity, stimulate economic activities and enhance the livelihoods of residents across the emirate.
Speaking on behalf of the Malami Support Organisation (MSO) in Kebbi South, Alhussain Muhammad, the organisation’s secretary in the emirate, commended Governor Idris for what he described as his administration’s commitment to development in Zuru Emirate and other parts of the state.
He highlighted ongoing and planned infrastructure projects, including the Zuru–Koko Road, as examples of government interventions under the leadership of Governor Idris, popularly known as Kauran Gwandu.
Alhussain also acknowledged the contributions of political leaders, traditional institutions and community stakeholders towards promoting unity, dialogue and cooperation between the government and the people.
He explained that the defectors’ decision to join the APC reflected their desire to work with the state government and participate more actively in the development of their communities and Kebbi State as a whole.
He further commended Governor Idris, traditional rulers, political leaders and other stakeholders for their roles in fostering peaceful coexistence, mutual understanding and cooperation across Zuru Emirate.
