Kebbi Hisbah board, an agency under the Ministry of Religious Affairs has commended Dandi Local Government Council over the banning of trafficking of illicity drugs and gambling in the area.
Director of Shariah of the board, Sirajo Usman Kamba stated this in a statement made available to newsmen in Birnin Kebbi.
According to him, “the Kebbi State Hisbah Board has received with great appreciation the report of the commendable efforts made by the authorities of Dandi Local Government Area to promote moral values, maintain peace and security, protect the dignity of the people, and combat social vices through the introduction of community-based rules and measures.
“Among the measures introduced are Making a medical fitness certificate compulsory before the solemnisation of any marriage, Prohibiting the mixing of men and women, the use of DJs, musical entertainment, and dancing at social gatherings and ceremonies.
“They also banned reckless motorcycle and vehicle racing during bridal processions and other celebrations. They are prohibiting indecent hairstyles and other fashion considered contrary to good moral conduct. They are combating gambling, drug abuse, and the trafficking or sale of illicit drugs.
Kamba also commended the council for regulating engagement ceremonies to discourage unnecessary extravagance, prohibiting the use of obscene or indecent language in the advertisement and sale of traditional herbal medicines.
