Kebbi State governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, has assured students of sustainable and timely payment of scholarships, emphasising his administration’s commitment to education.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Communication and Strategy, Alhaji Abdullahi Idris Zuru, stated this during an award ceremony for the Permanent Secretary in the state Ministry of Youths and Sports, Alhaji Sa’idu Buhari Warah, organised by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) at the state Secretariat, Gwadangaji.

According to him, “Governor Idris has continued to fulfil his obligation to the students. He has guaranteed stable scholarship payments for Kebbi tertiary students, both locally and abroad. This administration has cleared over N4 billion in debts on unpaid scholarships, tuition fees, and other expenses.

“Presently, the state government is making regular payments for students’ fees and expenses, with substantial payments already made for students in Nigerian universities.”

Zuru said that the governor’s commitment to education was aimed to improve academic excellence, reduce burdens on parents, and provide an environment that is conducive for learning. He added that, Governor Idris has also increased feeding money for pupils across schools from N150 million to N300 million monthly and lifted the embargo on employment, with more than 2,000 teachers employed recently.

Zuru further stressed that Idris’s administration prioritises education, providing free education and scholarships to students in Kebbi State, making it the only state in Nigeria offering 100 per cent free education.

Earlier, the Coordinator of NANS for Sokoto Zone, and National vice President in charge of Special Duties, Mallam Abdullahi Yahuza gave the reasons the Association’s considered Sa’idu Warah for the award.

According to him, the awardee, a professionally trained teacher has risen from a class teacher, vice principal, principal, Zonal Inspector of Education to his present position of permanent secretary and believed to have selflessly served the education sector.
