Kebbi State Government has declared its interest to renew the two-year contract of the two Portuguese to handle the affairs of the state Football Academy.

Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Comrade Nura Bala Fingiller confirmed this during a ministerial briefing organised by the state Ministry of Information and Culture.

Fingiller disclosed that already many players from the state are in Europe and the Middle East while six players are in Egypt preparing for trial in Portugal for 2023/2024 season.

According to him, “the State Government has also through the Ministry sponsored the Referees Development Programme which resulted to the nomination of two Referees into FIFA grading programme.

“Also, an arrangement is on the final stages to renew the two years contract of two expatriates from Portugal to man the State Football Academy by the present administration of Governor Nasir Idris.”

Fingiller attributed the success of the Kebbi Beach Soccer team, known as Kebbi Fishers BSC, to the continuous support and sponsors by the state government.

He disclosed that the team is now number one in Nigeria and Africa, stressing that the Kebbi Fishers is now ranked as number three globally.

While speaking on the development of football in the state, he disclosed that the state has 11 different football clubs participating in various leagues in the country.

He added that the state government had sponsored a delegation to the Commonwealth Games in Australia, comprises of the ministry officials and sports stakeholders to add value to the sports programmes in the state.
