Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State has launched a programme aimed at stopping malaria in the state with removal of dumping sites from public domains.
Bagudu, who flag-off the exercise, on Wednesday, at the School of Nursing and Midwifery, Birnin-Kebbi, said the action would advance health and living standard of citizens.
“We are all living witness to the harrowing experience brought by the menace of malaria in our respective domains over the years. Recent Epidemiological surveillance report in the state indicates incidence of malaria as the major dominance state-wide.
” Albeit the fact that malaria as an environment related disease is preventable. The state government therefore resolved to tackle this issue boldly by constituting a committee comprising of various stakeholders to advise it on the modalities for putting a stop to the continue scourge of malaria in the state.
“The committee has since commenced work as evidenced in the mass evacuation of existing drainages within the state capital and fumigation/spray of potential mosquitoes breeding places in the four Emirates Headquarters in the state by the Ministry of Environment.”
To achieve this feat, most dumping sites and refuse spots in Birnin-Kebbi were ordered to be removed immediately by Kebbi State Urban Developments Authority (KUDA).
The Governor also ordered the distribution of insecticide mosquito nets to pregnant women children and anti malaria drugs to health facilities free of charge.
