Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, has flagged off the dualisation of Abdulsalami Road in Jega town, Jega Local Government Area, as part of his administration’s efforts to transform the state’s infrastructure.

The project valued at ₦5.14 billion, was said to be part of the Governor’s commitment to fulfilling his campaign promises and delivering tangible dividends of democracy to the people of Kebbi State.

According to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works, Arc. Sa’ad Musa Sakaba, the project, to be executed by Habibu Engineering Nigeria Limited within 12 months, includes the redesign and upgrading of the old single carriageway to a dual carriageway with proper drainage and solar streetlights.

He said: “the scope of work covers full scarification of the carriageway and shoulders, filling of embankments, construction of reinforced concrete drains on both sides, access culverts, stone pitching, asphalt surfacing, road markings, and the creation of four new roundabouts.

Sakaba explained that the total cost comprises ₦3.58 billion for main works, ₦72 million for relocation of water pipes, and ₦1.48 billion as compensation for affected structures. He commended Governor Idris for ensuring that only qualified and experienced contractors are engaged to guarantee quality and timely completion.

He also reaffirmed the Ministry’s readiness to diligently supervise the project and appreciated the Governor’s confidence in the Ministry of Works.

While speaking at the flag-off, Governor Idris said progress cannot be achieved unless Jega is opened up for more infrastructural development.

He assured that funds for the project had been fully provided and awarded to a competent firm, noting that his administration never awards contracts without the means to complete them.

The Governor highlighted other ongoing projects across the state, including the renovation of Jega Hospital, approval for nine general hospital renovations, completion of 47 primary healthcare centres, plans for 45 more, and rehabilitation of both primary and secondary schools.

He also mentioned projects at the School of Health Science and Haliru Abdu Arabic Secondary School, emphasizing that his administration are touching every sector from health and education to security enhancement and poverty eradication.
