Kebbi attack: State govt assures vulnerable communities of commitment to security

The Kebbi state government has assured communities in vulnerable areas in all parts of the state of commitment to their security.

The Deputy Governor of the state, Alhaji Abubakar Umar Tafida gave the assurances on behalf of Governor Nasir Idris while on condolence visits to villagers who sustained casualties in recent attacks in Mamuni, Awashaka, Kurin-Naida, Tungar Tsoho, Danmairago and Makargara- all of them villages in Arewa Local Government Area .

While addressing the communities which are sharing borders with Niger Republic, Tafida who the state Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, explained that, the State Government would take up the issue of renewed strategy on security and commitment more seriously through more collaboration and vigorous vigilance on the part of all stakeholders in the security sector.

He said both the state and the federal governments are jointly working hard to contain the situation by identifying areas of more investment in the security architecture and making deliberate and concerted efforts to take the fight to the bandits in their hideouts wherever they are holed up.

The Deputy Governor called on the people to increase their level of cooperation with the security agencies in their respective localities by providing useful information on the movement of bandits.

He prayed for the repose of the souls of those killed and urged their families to see it as ordained by the Almighty Allah.

Tafida announced monetary assistance to the families of those who lost their lives and to the injured who are currently receiving treatment in hospitals.

Some of the villagers who spoke during the Deputy Governor’s visit, commended soldiers for their quick response when the attacks occurred, saying that the prompt response had saved many lives.

Malam Dogo Dauda Mamuni who spoke on behalf of the villagers of Mamuni where the bulk of fatalities occurred remarked that the soldiers acted promptly by engaging the bandits in a gun fight.

He said when the soldiers arrived, the bandits were on the verge of moving into houses to pick their victims, but as soon as the soldiers arrived and confronted them, they retreated into the bushes.

He commended the military for demonstrating courage and professionalism.

On the Deputy Governor’s entourage were the Commissioner of Home Affairs and Internal Security, Alhaji Haliru Wasagu; Commissioner of Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed BK; Commissioner of Innovation and Digital Economy, Alhaji Ibrahim Mohammed Sakaba; member House of Assembly, Alhaji Nura Kangiwa and the Chairman of Arewa Local Government, Alhaji Sani Kulita among many others.
