Suspected terrorists armed with AK-47 rifles reportedly descended on the Sayaya community of Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State on Tuesday morning killing five residents and abducted five others.
The attack comes on the heels of a similar incident last Sunday when terrorists massacred nine residents during a maulud procession at Rugar Kusa village, Musawa Local Government Area of the state.
Confirming Tuesday’s attack in a press statement, the Katsina Command Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, said that policemen who were deployed to the scene engaged the hoodlums in a gun duel.
According to the statement, “however, five people (residents) were shot dead, two injured and five people kidnapped by the assailants. “The injured were rushed to the hospital for medical attention.
“The Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, while condoling the families of those affected by the attack, urged members of the public with information that will aid the investigation to come forward and assist in the investigation as efforts are being intensified to ensure the unhurt rescue of the kidnap victims are rescued and the arrest of the perpetrators of the dastardly act.”
