Some officers of the Katsina State Police Command have arrested two suspected car thieves after declining to collect N1 million cash from the hoodlums over a stolen vehicle.

A statement on Wednesday from the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, explained that the police apprehended the suspects during a routine patrol.

The PPRO said, “The Katsina State Police Command’s officers successfully arrested two suspected car thieves, rejected a N1 million bribe and recovered a suspected stolen motor vehicle, among other exhibits.

“On April 11, 2025, at about 1500 hours, while on a routine patrol along Birnin Kuka village, Mashi Local Government Area, Katsina State, officers attached to Border Patrol, Zone 4, Katsina, flagged down a Toyota Corolla LE, green colour, driven by one Mubarak Kabir, aged 26, and Adamu Hashim, aged 27, all of Kurna quarters, Fagge Local Government Area, Kano State.

“During preliminary investigations, it was revealed that the said vehicle was reportedly stolen from the FCT, Abuja.

“The suspects then offered a bribe of N1 million in cash to the patrol team with a view to evading justice, a gesture which the officers sternly rejected. Suspects are in custody.

“Furthermore, the suspected stolen motor vehicle, cash sum of ₦1 million, three mobile phones, one powerbank and a bunch of keys were recovered from the suspects as exhibits.

“Investigations are ongoing to unravel the extent of the suspects’ involvement in criminal activities.

“The Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, CP Bello Shehu, commended the officers’ commitment to upholding the law and exhibiting a high level of integrity.

“He further reaffirmed the commitment and dedication of the command towards protecting the lives and property of citizens of Katsina State, while maintaining a high level of integrity and respect for human rights.”
