A cross-section of Kano State residents has welcomed the Federal Government’s approval of the N46 billion reconstruction and resurfacing of the second runway at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) in Kano.
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, announced the approval during the commissioning ceremony of the Aminu Kano Domestic Terminal held a few days ago.
He announced that about 60 per cent of the contract sum had already been released, adding that the contractor had been mobilised to the site.
Speaking on the development on Thursday, the Director of Finance at the Hadejia Jama’are River Basin Development Authority, Musa Ilyasu Kwankwaso, expressed appreciation for the project.
He charged Northerners to always appreciate the good gestures of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, adding that the approval of the project was a clear indication of his concern for the region.
Kwankwaso said, “I expect our people, regardless of political affiliations to thank the President because this project is a springboard to more commercial and trading activities in the region”.
“We should imbibe the culture of appreciating good when we see one. It should not always be negative.”
He added that the project would go a long way towards helping the state regain its rightful position as the economic gateway to the North.
He lauded the Chairman of the Aviation Governing Board, Umar Abdullahi Ganduje, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, the Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, Abubakar Kabir Abubakar Bichi, and all those who supported the approval of the project.
