Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, said it has recovered the sum of N310,000 from the Special Adviser on Religious Affairs to the governor of Kano State, Ali Baba Fagge.
The Chairman of the Commission, Mr Muhyi Magaji disclosed this while briefing newsmen on Wednesday in Kano.
The Special Adviser was recently invited by the Commission following a petition accusing him of alleged deduction of money meant for disbursement to some Islamic clerics in the state who attended a special prayer organized by state governor on COVID-19.
According to the anti corruption boss , seven out of the 10 clerics allegedly shortchanged complained to his office over the alleged abduction from the N50,000, being the actual amount extended to them.
He said, “During the investigation, we discovered that it is not as people were saying that Fagge carted away millions of naira.
“The investigation revealed that the officer was giving N50,000 each for each of the 10 people, but along the way, some of them were forced to return part of the money.
“I want to assure you that we have recovered N310,000, and we have returned the money to the affected people.
“But we have widened our investigation on the issue to find out if other beneficiaries were also affected, because, no fewer than 350 people were engaged in the prayer session.
“At the end of the investigation, necessary measures will be taken.”
Magaji reiterated the commission’s commitment in ensuring justice, reduce corruption and other crimes in the State. End
