The Nigeria Police in Kano State have unveiled a new operational office for the operations of its newly established Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU).
The Unit, established on 24th April 2026, aligns fully with the reforms and directives of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu on intelligence-led policing and community partnership.
Speaking at the occasion of the unveiling, Kano State Police Commissioner, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori disclosed that the launch of the unit represented the resolve of the Command to confront violent crimes with speed, precision, and professionalism.
He added that the unit was a specialized, intelligence-driven tactical unit created to decisively address cases of armed robbery, kidnapping, carjacking, and other violent crimes that threaten public safety and economic activity in the state.

He held that with the launch, the Command was now better positioned to respond faster to distress calls to violent crime incidents across the state and to prevent, manage, and control violent crimes through proactive deployments and intelligence-led operations as well as effectively investigate and prosecute offenders, thereby ensuring that justice was overtly served without delay.
“The VCRU is not a unit for every officer. We have carefully vetted, selected, and deployed trained, professional, committed, dedicated, and result-oriented police officers to form this Unit: he stated.
“Each officer has undergone rigorous screening and mandatory training in tactical response, human rights, professional conduct, and intelligence handling, in line with global best practices. Discipline, integrity, and respect for human rights will remain the guiding principles of every VCRU operation” he stated.
To strengthen public confidence, the police boss said that they had established a State Civilian Oversight Board for the Unit composed of civil society leaders, traditional rulers, legal practitioners, and community representatives.
“A dedicated public complaints desk has been set up at the VCRU Base, and all complaints will be acknowledged and responded to within time” he added.
