Following the recent declaration of a State of Emergency on Education, the Kano State Government has inaugurated a 14-member committee to review existing policies in its education sector.
In inaugurating the committee on Wednesday at the Kano Educational Resource Department (KERD), Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf outlined the committee’s terms of reference, which are to:
Review the four existing policies on education in the state
Determine whether they align with the cultural and religious beliefs of the state
Assess the feasibility of their implementation
Evaluate whether the policies would help strengthen the education sector
Make recommendations that are appropriate for the development of education in the state
The Governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Education, Ali Madoka, disclosed that the affected education policies include:
Kano State Girls’ Education Policy
Kano State Gender Equity and Social Inclusion Policy
Kano State Non-State School Policy
Kano State Teacher Development Policy
Members of the committee, according to the Governor, include Abdullahi Muhd Dutse, who will serve as the Chairman of the Committee.
Other members are:
Abdallah Uba Adamu, Executive Chairman, Zakka and Hubsi Commission
Habibu Dan Almajiri
Danlami Garba, Kano State Commissioner for Women, Children, and Disabled Affairs
Amina Abdullahi (HOD)
Isa Ahmad, who will serve as Secretary
Also, the committee members include:
Tijjani Muhammad Naniya, Special Adviser to the Governor on Emirate Council
Kabiru Sani Hanga
Munzali M. Mustapha
Auwal Halliru Arzai, Special Adviser to the Governor on Higher Education
Bashir Aliyu Umar, Chief Imam of Alfurqan Jumma’at Mosque
A representative of the Emirate Council
A representative of Civil Society Organizations
Nura Ja’afar Kura
Ibrahim Bawa, Director of Archives and Publication (Secretary of the Committee)
The Governor, who gave the committee three weeks to complete its assignment and submit its report, enjoined them to use their vast experience to come up with recommendations that would enhance the quality of education in the state.
Responding, the Chairman of the committee, Abdullahi Muhd Dutse, assured that they were resolved to work as a team to justify the confidence reposed in them.
