President Bola Tinubu yesterday met with Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State at the State House, Abuja.
The meeting comes amid speculations of his possible defection from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC.
The visit marked the governor’s first known audience with President Tinubu since the President’s return from Abu Dhabi, where he attended the 2026 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week.
Details of the meeting were not disclosed to State House correspondents.
It is, however, believed to be linked to ongoing consultations on political realignments.
Cable quoted sources familiar with the talks as saying negotiations were stalled over the APC leadership’s refusal to provide Governor Yusuf with a documented guarantee of an “automatic governorship ticket” for the 2027 elections.
This is as Rabiu Kwankwaso, former governor of Kano and Yusuf’s political mentor, has publicly condemned the governor’s potential defection as an act of betrayal.
Kwankwaso has also warned that Yusuf could face consequences in the 2027 polls if he joins the APC.
