The Chairman of the Kano State Task Force on Drug Abuse, Muhuyi Magaji Rimin-Gado, has threatened to arrest and prosecute any politician who approaches him to secure the release of an arrested drug suspect.
Rimin-Gado spoke during a meeting with the media in the state, adding that the era when politicians could successfully secure the release of arrested drug suspects was over.
“They would not come to ask me to free a drug suspect…. No politician would dare do that! I am waiting for that politician…” he declared.
He stressed that the only person who could approach him to secure the release of a drug suspect was the state governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, adding, however, that should that happen, he would have no option but to resign his appointment.

He observed that Kano has a troubling record of drug abuse, which has had a negative impact on law and order in the state.
Quoting statistics from the Nigeria Police Force, Rimin-Gado disclosed that in 2025, 70 per cent of the 3,080 arrests for major crimes in the state were linked to drug abuse. He added that without drugs, about 2,700 of those major crimes would likely not have occurred.
He also cited the case of Maimunatu, the woman who allegedly chopped off the genitals of her lover, as one of the examples of crimes linked to drug abuse.
He said the state government was deeply concerned about the prevalence of drug abuse in the state and was determined to do all that was necessary to halt the trend.
