The people of Abia North Senatorial Zone are expected to return home in large numbers this Christmas, buoyed by what youth leaders describe as visible and impactful developmental projects attracted by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu.
The Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL) said the improved security, infrastructure, and social amenities across the zone have restored confidence among indigenes, making the area attractive for festive celebrations and family reunions.
In a press release issued, yesterday, COSEYL President General, Goodluck Ibem, attributed the renewed optimism to “the transformative leadership and people-oriented projects” of the former Abia State governor at the National Assembly.
“Abia North has witnessed remarkable transformation under Senator Orji Uzor Kalu. Roads linking various communities have been constructed, solar-powered street lights installed across communities, and water challenges addressed through boreholes,” Ibem said.
He added that the projects have improved safety, connectivity, and living standards, encouraging residents who had relocated to cities to return home. “These interventions have significantly enhanced the quality of life of our people and restored confidence in the zone,” he noted.
COSEYL also commended the senator’s investments in education, saying schools across Abia North have benefited from renovations and learning materials.
“Parents are now confidently transferring their children from cities back to schools in Abia North because of the improved learning environment created through refurbished classrooms, desks and writing materials,” Ibem said.
The youth group said the expected mass return of indigenes for Christmas celebrations reflects “renewed hope, unity and gratitude” among the people.
“As the festive season approaches, this en masse return home is a clear testament to the impact of Senator Kalu’s commitment to sustainable development,” the statement added.
COSEYL called on residents to use the festive period to promote peace and communal harmony, while urging leaders to sustain people-focused governance across the South East.
