The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has condemned the killing of a policeman attached to the member representing Isiala Ngwa North/South in the House of Representatives, Ginger Onwusibe, in Umuahia, the Abia State capital.
This is even as the Abia State police command said it has commenced probe into the killing of Inspector Bala Mohammed by gunmen on Monday.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), LIvinus Nwabughiogu, Kalu said he was deeply saddened by the heinous incident.
The deputy speaker called for a swift and thorough investigation to arrest and bring the perpetrators to justice.
“No form of violence, crime, or criminality must be tolerated in Abia or anywhere else in the country. Perpetrators must steer clear of God’s Own State,” he warned.
“Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family, friends, and colleagues of the slain police officer. We must stand united against violence and work towards creating a secure environment for all.”
Meanwhile, the Abia state police command has said it was probing the circumstances surrounding the killing of Inspector Mohammed.
Abia State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Maureen Chinaka said that already officers of the command had carried out a comprehensive search operation to locate the attackers.
She disclosed that Tactical teams have equally been deployed to track down the fleeing suspects, as investigation into the incident has commenced in full.
