The apex socio-cultural organisation of the Ogoni people, KAGOTE, has expressed profound condolences to the government and people of Nigeria, as well as the family of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.

In a statement issued by its President, Emmanuel Deeyah, the organisation fondly remembered Buhari’s dedication to environmental justice and his efforts to address the historical injustices faced by the Ogoni community.

KAGOTE specifically praised his pursuit of implementing the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) report on Ogoniland.

While acknowledging that challenges remain, KAGOTE commended the late leader’s willingness to engage on issues affecting Ogoni land and his genuine desire to promote healing and development in the region.

The organisation prayed for Buhari’s soul to rest in peace and expressed hope that his legacy would inspire future Nigerian leaders to prioritise the welfare of all Nigerians, particularly the Ogoni people.
