No fewer than 210 golfers would converge on the Kaduna Golf Club as the third edition of the FirstBank Golf Tournament tees off, promising a thrilling display of skill, competition, and sportsmanship.

The announcement was made by Idris Ibrahim, Group Executive, Retail Banking North at FirstBank, during a press briefing at the club.

He was represented by the Business Development Manager, Abdullahi Abubakar.

Ibrahim reaffirmed FirstBank’s long-standing commitment to sports development, noting that the bank has supported golf in Nigeria for over 60 years. Since 2023, it has partnered with the Kaduna Golf Tournament to deepen the growth of the sport within the region.

“With a legacy spanning over 130 years, FirstBank remains dedicated to strengthening communities and building enduring relationships.

“Our sponsorship of this tournament reflects that commitment and underscores our focus on community engagement across Kaduna State and Northern Nigeria,” he said.

He emphasised that golf reflected core values such as discipline, integrity, resilience, focus, and respect, principles that resonate strongly with the bank’s corporate philosophy.

Beyond competition, Ibrahim noted that the tournament offers a critical platform for both amateur and professional golfers to gain exposure, access mentorship, and potentially secure international opportunities.

The sponsorship, he added, is part of FirstBank’s First@Sports initiative, aimed at nurturing talent and sustaining legacy sports such as golf, polo, and tennis across Nigeria.

“As players step onto the course, we urge them to stay focused and enjoy the game, remembering that in golf, the most important shot is always the next one,” he added.

Also speaking, Captain of Kaduna Golf Club, Nazifi Jibril, said the tournament will feature a wide range of categories, including Men’s, Ladies’, Veteran Ladies’, Super Veterans’, and the Overall Winner.

He disclosed that the event, initially scheduled for last year, was postponed due to unforeseen circumstances but is now set to return bigger and better.

According to him, the tournament will officially commence with a ceremonial tee-off involving representatives of FirstBank and the Kaduna Golf Club.

Jibril commended FirstBank for its strong financial backing, describing it as a clear demonstration of the bank’s dedication to sports development and the advancement of golf in Nigeria.

He assured that the club would reciprocate the gesture by strengthening its relationship with the bank, including increased patronage and promotion of its services among members.
