Kaduna: Presiding officer absconds with polls results

A Presiding Officer has absconded with the results of a polling unit at Birnin-Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Collation Officer for the Independent National Electoral Commission in the local government area, Prof. Sule Mohammed, disclosed the incident and subsequently cancelled the results.

Mohammed, a lecturer at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, stated this when he presented the results yesterday.

He said his findings revealed that the presiding officer took the decision in order to protest non-payment of his allowances. He added that he has given details of the presiding officer to the security agencies for necessary investigation.

“We waited in vain after the exercise had been concluded for several hours, only to be told that the PO had disappeared with the results.

“We later gathered that the young man said he took the decision in order to protest the non payment of his allowances by INEC.”

Meanwhile, the results announced by Mohammed showed that APC polled 33,786 in the LGA, while the PDP scored 8,206.
