- Corps members posted to PPA
From Sola Ojo, Kaduna
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on Tuesday closed the 2023 batch ‘A’ (stream II) 21-day orientation course in low key in Kaduna State possibly due to several activities lined up for the scheme’s 50th anniversary.
Daily Sun reports that the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the largest youth mobiliser organisation in the Country was kickstarted with a unity walk across the Country ahead of May 22 for the ground finale.
Addressing Corps members shortly before being issued posting letters at the temporary orientation camp, Government College, Kurmi Marshi, Kaduna, the Coordinator of the Scheme in the State, Mr Hassan Mahmud Taura, urged Corps members to accept their postings in good fate and quickly settle down for the task ahead in the remaining 11 months of national service.
He also appealed to Corps employers not to reject Corps members posted to their organisation but instead, to give them moral and other necessary supports that will facilitate their quick settling down.
According to him, as the NYSC scheme clocks 50 years on 22nd May 2023, “I urge you to sustain the spirit of patriotism, hard work and resilience, which the scheme promotes in the last 5 decades”, congratulating them for being Golden Jubilee corps members.
“Please, accept your posting in good fate and perform your duties with diligence and be guided by the provisions of the NYSC Act and Bye-Laws, as well the rules and regulations of your workplace. Appreciate and respect the culture and tradition of your host communities.
“I urge you to be security conscious at all times, as security is everyone’s business. You should avoid acts that can endanger your life such as staying out late, attending night parties, visitation of dangerous places, and acceptance of car rides and gifts from strangers.
“Ensure that you undertake personal and group Community Development Service projects to contribute to the development of your host communities.
“Avoid using social media for ethnic jingoism, rumour peddling and promotion of animosity. Instead, your activities online should be targeted at self-improvement as well as the promotion of the unity, peace and development of our dear country, Nigeria.
“I appeal to Corps Employers to always accept Corps Members posted to them and make the necessary provisions for their welfare. In addition, I urge employers to mentor these young Nigerians properly to enable them to develop their potential,” he said.
