Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has said his administration has not taken any new loan since he assumed office, despite servicing debts inherited from previous governments.
Sani made the disclosure during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he explained how his administration had managed the state’s finances amid increased revenue.
The governor said Kaduna currently spends about ₦6.7 billion every month servicing loans inherited from previous administrations.
“Since I became governor, I’ve not borrowed with one kobo,” Sani said.
He attributed the decision to what he described as prudent financial management and careful prioritisation of government expenditure.
“It’s about being prudent. It’s about selecting or being very careful in where you invest the money,” he said.
Sani said his administration had instead focused on directing available resources towards priority sectors while meeting the state’s existing debt obligations.
The governor also highlighted what he described as achievements in agriculture, education, infrastructure, skills development and security since taking office.
On education, he disclosed that the state government had identified about 550,000 out-of-school children through a household-mapping exercise conducted across Kaduna.
According to him, more than 300,000 of the identified children have subsequently returned to school.
Sani said the exercise was still ongoing and that the data collected was helping the government develop more targeted interventions for children who remain outside the classroom.
He maintained that the administration’s approach was designed to ensure government resources were deployed based on clearly identified needs across the state.
