Kaduna State Governor, Senator Dr. Uba Sani, has flagged off the 2025 Fertilizer Distribution Exercise in the state, distributing 400 trucks of fertilizer to 100,000 smallholder farmers.
Each beneficiary will receive two bags of fertilizer free of charge, while commercial farmers will access 10 bags at a 40% subsidized rate.
Speaking on Saturday, shortly before the flag off, the governor emphasized that the exercise is part of the government’s commitment to inclusive development, food security, and rural prosperity through agricultural transformation.
He noted that the state government has increased its agricultural budgetary allocation from ₦1.48 billion in 2023 to ₦74.02 billion in 2025, representing a 4,871% increase.
He highlighted the government’s efforts to support farmers, including the deployment of over 200 tractors, rehabilitation of rural feeder roads, and the launch of the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zone (SAPZ) in partnership with the African Development Bank and the Federal Government.
The governor also announced the setting up of an Agricultural Quality Assurance Centre (AQAC) to ensure that agricultural commodities meet global export standards, positioning Kaduna farmers to access high-value markets.
Governor Sani commended the state and local government distribution committees for their work in ensuring transparency, equity, and accountability in the fertilizer distribution exercise.
He urged beneficiaries to use the inputs responsibly and thanked partners in the private sector and development community for their support.
“This fertilizer distribution to farmers is not a stand-alone event—it is part of a strategic, coordinated, and systems-based approach to agricultural transformation. We are building a value chain that begins with the farmer and ends at the market shelf, from subsistence to surplus, and from food security to export competitiveness.
“I call on all beneficiaries to use these inputs responsibly. I commend the state and local government distribution committees—comprising public officials, civil society, traditional and religious institutions, farmer associations, security agencies, and anti-corruption bodies—for their continued work to ensure that this exercise is conducted transparently, equitably, and accountably.
“Let me thank our partners in the private sector and development community, my agricultural team, and most importantly, our resilient and hardworking farmers. Together, we will continue building a Kaduna State where agriculture is not just a way of life, but a pathway to prosperity”. Governor Sani said.
The event marks another milestone in the Kaduna State government’s efforts to transform the agricultural sector and improve the lives of farmers and rural communities.
