The Executive Chairman of Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Hon. Dr Salisu Isah, has expressed profound gratitude to President Bola Tinubu and Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, following the official flag-off of the reconstruction of the 122-kilometre Mando-Kaduna-Birnin Gwari Road.
For a community that has endured years of insecurity, poor infrastructure, and economic isolation, the ₦177 billion road project represents far more than the rehabilitation of a highway. For Isah and the people of Birnin Gwari, it is a symbol of renewed hope and a promise finally being translated into action.
In a statement issued on behalf of the government and the people of the local government, the chairman described the development as a “defining moment” in the history of Birnin Gwari, saying the people had long prayed and waited for the vital road to be restored.
“This is not simply a road project. It is the restoration of an economic lifeline,” Isah said, stressing that the highway serves farmers, traders, transporters, students, civil servants, artisans, and thousands of other residents who depend on the route for their daily activities.
The chairman said the reconstruction would improve security, facilitate agriculture and commerce, create jobs, ease transportation difficulties, and strengthen the movement of people and goods between communities and other parts of the country.
For Isah, the project also carries personal and political significance because of President Tinubu’s previous visit to Birnin Gwari before he assumed office.
He recalled that Tinubu had travelled by road through the area, witnessed firsthand the deplorable condition of the highway, and saw the difficulties confronting residents.
According to him, the president had promised that the federal government would address the security challenges affecting Birnin Gwari and also attend to the poor condition of the Kaduna-Birnin Gwari Road.
“Today, by the grace of Almighty Allah, we are witnessing the fulfillment of those commitments,” the chairman said.
He noted that improved security in the area had already begun to restore confidence among residents, encouraging farmers to return to their farms and creating a more conducive environment for economic activities.
The commencement of the road reconstruction, he added, would provide another major boost to the recovery of the local government.
“History remembers leaders not only for the promises they make, but for the promises they fulfill,” Isah said, thanking President Tinubu for what he described as his concern, compassion, and commitment to the people of Birnin Gwari.
The chairman also commended Governor Uba Sani for what he described as sustained attention to Birnin Gwari and his administration’s efforts to bring development to the area.
He highlighted the ongoing reconstruction of the 36-kilometre Bagoma-Gagumi Road, describing the project as another important intervention that had given residents renewed confidence in the government’s commitment to the area.
Isah also acknowledged the renovation of Jibril Mai Gwari Memorial Hospital I in Birnin Gwari, noting that improved healthcare infrastructure was critical to a community that had experienced prolonged challenges.
Another intervention cited by the chairman was the construction of a modern abattoir and veterinary clinic, which he said would improve public health, support livestock production, and strengthen the economic activities of butchers, livestock owners, and other related businesses.

“These interventions demonstrate what can be achieved when government listens to communities and responds to their needs,” he said.
While celebrating the road reconstruction, the chairman made it clear that the project should mark the beginning of a broader development push rather than the end of government attention to Birnin Gwari.
He appealed to the Federal and Kaduna State governments to revisit the abandoned Gwargwaje-Zaria Road through Farin Ruwa to Saulawa, which, according to him, commenced in 2011.
Its completion, he argued, would open up communities, strengthen commerce, and provide another important transportation link for residents.
Isah also called for the reconnection of communities in the eastern and western parts of Birnin Gwari to the national electricity grid.
He said nine of the local government’s 11 wards remained without reliable electricity connections, largely as a consequence of security challenges that disrupted existing infrastructure.
With security conditions improving, he urged the authorities to make electricity reconnection a development priority, stressing its importance to education, healthcare, agriculture, small businesses, and communication.
The chairman further called for sustained investment in education and healthcare, as well as the establishment of higher institutions of learning, a JAMB examination centre and functional skills acquisition centres in the area.
Such investments, he said, would enable young people to acquire knowledge and skills without travelling long distances and would help create a stronger foundation for peace and economic development.
For a local government that has for years been associated with insecurity and infrastructural challenges, the chairman believes the changing circumstances offer an opportunity to rewrite Birnin Gwari’s story.
“The future of Birnin Gwari must not be defined only by the challenges we have survived. It must increasingly be defined by the opportunities we create,” he said.
Isah assured the Federal and Kaduna State governments of the continued support of the people of Birnin Gwari for initiatives aimed at restoring peace, expanding development, and strengthening unity among communities.
He prayed for continued wisdom, good health, and strength for President Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani, while also seeking protection and success for the workers and contractors handling the various projects.
For Birnin Gwari, the chairman’s message is one of gratitude, but also expectation: the long-awaited road is finally being rebuilt, security is improving, and the community now wants these gains to become the foundation for a broader transformation.
“Birnin Gwari is grateful. Birnin Gwari is hopeful. And Birnin Gwari is ready for a new chapter of peace, connectivity, and development,” Isah declared.
