The 2023 governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State, Isa Mohammed Ashiru, has formally resigned his membership of the party, citing persistent internal crises and divisions.

Ashiru conveyed his decision in a letter addressed through his ward chairman in Kudan Ward, Kudan Local Government Area of Kaduna State, dated March 27, 2026.

In the letter, which he posted on his Facebook page,  he said his resignation followed careful reflection on the ongoing challenges within the party.

“I write with a deep sense of humility to formally notify the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of my decision to resign my membership of the party effective from today.”

He attributed his decision to what he described as prolonged instability within the party, including leadership disputes and internal conflicts.

“After a careful reflection over the persistent internal leadership crisis, conflicts, rancor and divisions within the party, it has become increasingly difficult for me to continue to participate actively as a member of the party,” Ashiru said.

Describing the move as personal, he added: “This decision is personal and taken in good faith. Please kindly accept this letter as my formal notice of resignation from the Party (PDP).”

Ashiru, a prominent political figure in Kaduna State, contested the 2023 gubernatorial election on the PDP platform.

His resignation is expected to have significant implications for the party’s structure and influence in the state.

As of press time, the leadership of the PDP in Kaduna State had yet to officially respond to the development.
