The Kaduna International Film Festival is set to hold its first series of film summit in partnership with Afristar Media.
The summit will take place at Kannywood Hall, Plot C2, Muhammadu Buhari Way, Tudun Yoka, Kano from June 21-22, 2023 ahead of the 6th Kaduna International Film Festival slated for August 22-26, 2023. It will be wrapped up with a talent hunt known as Kano Auditions.
According to Audu Kashim Israel, founder of Kaduna International Film Festival, Kano State will be the first to host the film summit because of its large market and huge number of practitioners. “Although, other 19 northern states have practitioners who are making films, we will also reach those states,” he said.
On his part, Afristar Media’s CEO, Mr Abdulrasheed Bello aka JJC Skillz, having grown up in Kano, he will look at areas where the northern film industry popularly called ‘Kannywood’ needs support and make his contributions.
Both Audu and Bello have identified marketing, funding, copyright, training and retraining, among others as challenges the creative industry in the north is faced with. “We shall bring resource persons experienced in various fields including marketing (cinema, Netflix and online) during the summit,” Audu promised.
Meanwhile, Dr. Ahmad Sarari, National President, Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (MOPPAN) has assured his full support for the summit.
