Former Zamfara Central senator, Kabiru Marafa, has officially defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing concerns over alleged political manipulation within the ruling party.
Marafa’s move, announced in a statement on Thursday by his media team, marks a significant shift in Zamfara’s political landscape, with the former lawmaker confirming that his supporters and political structure have joined him in the ADC.
The decision followed what he described as extensive consultations with political allies and stakeholders at a strategic meeting held in Kaduna.
“After careful deliberations and consideration of the future direction of the political movement, Senator Marafa formally declared his decision to align with the African Democratic Congress,” the statement read.
Explaining his exit from the APC, Marafa accused the party of engaging in internal practices that undermine transparency, including alleged attempts to exploit the National Identification Number (NIN) database for partisan political registration.

“The Senator also confirmed his decision to resign from the All Progressives Congress, citing growing concerns over what he described as political manipulations, including alleged attempts to exploit the National Identification Number (NIN) database for partisan political registration,” the statement said
He noted that his resignation from the APC would follow due process, including formally removing his name from the party’s membership register.
Marafa also called on residents of Zamfara State to rally behind the ADC, urging them to register with the party and support what he described as a credible platform for political transformation, accountability, and good governance.
“Marafa called on the good people of the state to massively register with the ADC and support the party, describing it as a credible platform for political transformation, accountability, and good governance,” the statement said.
The former senator disclosed plans to return to his hometown to complete the formalities of his exit from the APC and secure his membership in the ADC, after which a major gathering of supporters is expected to be held in Gusau, the state capital.
Marafa further expressed concern over what he described as attempts to create confusion and instability within opposition parties.
