JUST IN: Taraba Assembly impeaches Deputy Speaker

The Taraba State House of Assembly on Monday impeached its Deputy Speaker, Mr. Mohammed Gwampo.

Gwampo representing Yorro state constituency was impeached at the plenary session of the House on Monday for gross incompetence.

The House also elected Mr. Charles Maijankai of Karim Lamido I state constituency as the new deputy speaker.

Maijankai until his election as the new deputy speaker was the majority leader of the House.

The motion for the impeachment of the deputy speaker was moved by the former majority leader, Mr. Albasu Kunini of Lau state constituency.

Reacting to his impeachment, Mr. Gwampo regretted that he was not given a fair hearing.

Gwampo, who served as the deputy speaker in the 8th Assembly was re-elected unanimously at the inauguration of the 9th Assembly to retain his previous position.
