The Teranga Lions of Senegal have won the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with a lone-goal victory over hosts Morocco.

Pape Gueye scored in the fourth minute of extra time to secure victory for Senegal at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, Rabat on Sunday night.

This followed a controversial penalty awarded to Morocco late into added time.

Senegal players had threatened to walk off the pitch after the penalty was awarded for a push by defender El Hadji Malick Diouf on Moroccan forward Brahim Diaz.

Diaz eventually played the penalty in the 24th minute of time added but his attempted chip was saved by Senegal goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.
