JUST IN: Reps withdraw state police bill

The House of Representatives has withdrawn its version of the constitutional amendment bill seeking the establishment of state police, paving the way for the consideration of the Executive’s proposal on the issue.

At Tuesday’s plenary, the House passed the Executive-sponsored state police bill through first and second readings and subsequently referred it to the House Committee on Constitutional Review for further legislative action.

The move signals a shift in the legislative process, with lawmakers now set to deliberate on the Executive’s version of the bill as efforts to amend the Constitution and create state police gather momentum.
