June 12: ADC Tasks Govt on Security, Economy

From Ndubuisi Orji, Abuja

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called on the government to take urgent steps to address security, economic and infrastructure challenges in the country.

The ADC National Youth Leader, Chukwuka Odimbu, gave the charge, on Wednesday, at a one-day leadership confab organised by the party to commemorate this year’s Democracy Day.

Odimbu, while stating that President Bola Tinubu owes Nigeria a duty to protect its democracy, charged youths to take centre in the affairs of the country and building an enduring nation.

He said “I sincerely call on the three arms of government to forge a common front of our national interest to address important issues bothering on security, economic growth infrastructural development and the well-being of Nigerians alongside other priorities. “

The youth leader noted that “June 12th holds a special place in our hearts as it marks a historic turning point. It is a day that symbolizes the resilience of our democratic spirit, a spirit that was unmistakably evident during the 1993 elections.

” This election, widely regarded as the freest and fairest in our nation’s history, was unfortunately annulled, leading to widespread protests and calls for justice. The events of June 12, 1993, became a catalyst for profound political change, eventually ushering in an era of renewed democratic governance.

“ADC hereby implore our youths to take ownership of our dear country as it belongs to all of us. As youths, we make up a chunk of the country’s population; our numerical strength is unmatchable as we have a vital role to play towards sensitizing the entire populace.

” Our role is simple; preach peace in principle-action and speech, then participate in governance towards purposeful engagement and sustainable development.”

Furthermore, Odimbu added “Dear Nigerian youth, we cannot continue to do the same thing, think the same way and expect a different results. We need to come out with ingenuity and innovations, we need to take back our country from those spineless entities and build the future we envisage for ourselves and our children’s children.”
