The Managing Director of Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, Dr. Peer Lubasch, has commended President Bola Tinubu and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for what he described as the remarkable transformation of Abuja through accelerated infrastructure development.
Lubasch spoke at a thank-you dinner organised by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to mark the conclusion of 31 consecutive days of project flag-offs and commissioning held as part of activities celebrating Abuja’s 50th anniversary.
He said the projects had significantly improved transportation, urban development and public services across the nation’s capital, adding that residents were the ultimate beneficiaries of the ongoing infrastructure renewal.
According to him, the Tinubu administration’s commitment to infrastructure under the Renewed Hope Agenda is evident in the completion of projects that are already improving the lives of Nigerians.
He also praised Wike for revitalising Abuja’s development agenda through the completion of abandoned projects and the execution of new ones. Reflecting on the city’s growth over the past five decades, Lubasch said Abuja has evolved from largely undeveloped land into one of Africa’s most admired planned capitals.
He noted that while the city experienced periods of slow development, the current pace of project delivery has restored confidence and accelerated growth across the FCT.
“Communities across the Territory are once again witnessing visible transformation,” he said, adding that the scale and speed of infrastructure delivery have positioned Abuja for sustained development.
Lubasch described the dinner as not only a celebration of completed projects but also a recognition of the leadership, professionalism and collaboration that made the achievements possible.
He reaffirmed Julius Berger’s long-standing relationship with Abuja, recalling the company’s role in constructing many of the roads, bridges and public buildings that have shaped the capital since its early years.
“Abuja is more than a project location for Julius Berger; it is part of our corporate history,” he said. “We are proud to have contributed to its development from the beginning and honoured to continue supporting its future growth.”
The Julius Berger chief also acknowledged the contributions of other construction firms, consultants, engineers, suppliers and skilled workers involved in the FCTA’s infrastructure programme, describing the achievements as a collective success for Nigeria’s construction industry.
While noting that contractors compete for projects, he stressed that all stakeholders share a common objective of delivering quality infrastructure that supports national development and improves the lives of citizens.
He added: “Great cities are never truly finished. They continue to grow, adapt and improve with every generation.”
Speaking at the event, President Tinubu, represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, said Abuja has witnessed significant transformation under Wike’s leadership, describing the ongoing infrastructure renewal as a landmark achievement in the city’s 50-year history.
He commended the FCT Administration for delivering projects that have had a direct impact on residents, stressing that leadership should be judged by results rather than promises.
“The Federal Capital Territory belongs to every Nigerian. It is where unity resides, where diversity meets and where the hope of every citizen finds a common address,” the President said.
Former FCT Minister, Aliyu Modibbo Umar, who represented Vice President Kashim Shettima at the event, also praised Wike’s performance, saying the pace of development had generated widespread calls for continuity.
In his remarks, Wike thanked President Tinubu for his support and said the projects executed by the FCTA demonstrate the dividends of democracy. He also appealed for sustained cooperation from the legislature, judiciary, contractors and other stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of more infrastructure projects across the Federal Capital Territory.
