Julius Berger Nigeria Plc has reaffirmed its commitment to delivering durable infrastructure as the reconstructed Buguma-Abalama-Tema-Degema-Abonnema Road in Rivers State was commissioned.
The road, which cuts across Asari-Toru, Degema and Akuku-Toru Local Government Areas, was formally opened on Monday in the presence of residents, traditional rulers, community leaders, government officials and other stakeholders.
The commissioning sparked celebrations across the communities, with cultural groups entertaining guests with traditional music and dances as residents expressed excitement over the completion of the project.
The commissioning was performed by the Amanyanabo and Paramount Ruler of Abonnema, His Royal Majesty King Dr. Disreal Gbobo Bob-Manuel II.
Speaking at the ceremony, Director, Administration, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, Dr. Abdulazziz Kaita, said the project underscored the company’s commitment to engineering excellence and infrastructure development in Rivers State.
Kaita said the road would improve connectivity and accessibility among communities across the three local government areas.
“This project represents a significant contribution to the Rivers State Government’s infrastructure development agenda and will greatly enhance accessibility and connectivity among communities within the three local government areas,” he said.
He said the project was successfully delivered despite the exceptional circumstances surrounding the six-month period of Emergency Rule in the state.
According to him, the completion demonstrated Julius Berger’s professionalism, efficiency and commitment to its partnership with the Rivers State Government.
Kaita said the company remained committed to constructing infrastructure capable of delivering long-term value to communities.
“Over the years, Julius Berger has remained committed to delivering projects of enduring quality, applying the highest engineering standards and deploying the technical expertise and resources required to meet the expectations of our clients and the communities we serve,” he said.
He added that the road would boost economic activities, improve movement and create greater access to opportunities for residents.
Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who attended the commissioning, commended Julius Berger for delivering the project to the required standards.
The governor also appreciated the host communities for their cooperation during the construction period.
Fubara described the road as a critical gateway for Abalama and neighbouring communities, saying its completion would ease the movement of goods and services while creating a more conducive environment for businesses.
“Goods and services can now move more freely, businesses can thrive, and our people can pursue opportunities that will improve livelihoods and positively impact their lives,” the governor said.
He said the improved road network would also contribute to addressing security and accessibility challenges that had affected communities along the corridor.
Julius Berger said it remained proud to be associated with the development of Rivers State and pledged to continue delivering sustainable infrastructure that meets high quality standards.
