Atlético Madrid forward Julián Alvarez missed Wednesday’s training session after reportedly falling ill, adding fresh attention to the uncertainty surrounding his future at the Spanish club.
Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, citing Marca, reported that the Argentina international was absent because he was feeling unwell.
The absence comes as Alvarez’s future continues to dominate transfer discussions, with the 26-year-old reportedly keen to leave Atlético and Barcelona understood to be his preferred destination.
Atlético have maintained their position regarding the forward, while Arsenal are monitoring developments and could enter the picture if Alvarez becomes open to a move to the Premier League.
According to Romano, Alvarez has so far indicated that Barcelona is his preferred destination, leaving Arsenal waiting to see whether the striker changes his stance.
His absence from training is therefore likely to attract further attention given the transfer uncertainty, although the report specifically attributed it to illness and did not suggest that Alvarez deliberately missed the session because of the transfer situation.
The forward was recently subjected to a hostile reception from sections of Atlético’s support during the club’s 2-2 draw with Villarreal, underlining the tension surrounding his situation.
