Jubilation erupted in many locations in Ebonyi state on Wednesday evening following the Supreme court declaration of Dr. Ifeanyi Odii, popularly known as Anyichuks, as the authentic gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic party (PDP) for the 2023 general elections in Ebonyi state.
Odii had won the Governorship election of the party conducted at the state Secretariat of the party on 29th May 2022.
But the party in a shocking statement cancelled the exercise and ordered a fresh election which produced Senator Obinna Ogba(Ebonyi Central).
Angered by the cancellation, Odii proceeded to the Federal High Court Abakaliki to seek redress.
The Federal High Court in it’s ruling in June, faulted the purported cancellation of the election and also anulled the election that produced Senator Ogba.
The matter later moved from the Federal High Court Abakaliki to the Appeal Court , and finally to the Supreme where Odii’s candidature was affirmed.
Daily Sun gathered that when the news of Odii’s victory sparked in many streets in Abakaliki, the state capital on Wednesday.
It was also gathered that jubilation also erupted at Nkwoagu Isu in Onicha local government area of the state which is the home town of the guber candidate.
A political analyst ,Nnanna Oyibe, while reacting to the supreme Court ruling, described it as the affirmation of the will of the majority of Ebonyi people.
“Odii is abinitio, the candidate of the people. This is the only man who has built more than 100 houses for the indigents across the state. With what he has done across the 13 local government areas of the state, his victory is sure in 2023. So his victory at the Supreme court today is an audacious affirmation of the will of the majority of Ebonyi people” he said.
