From Okey Sampson, Umuahia

There were jubilation on Monday in Abia North following Senator Orji Uzor Kalu Appeal Court’s victory.

This is even as the former senator for Abia Central, Mrs Nkechi Nwaogu has hailed the Court’s verdict.

The Appeal Court sitting in Lagos, Monday, in a unanimous judgment, upheld the verdict of the National Assembly Petitions Tribunal, Umuahia which earlier had thrown away the petition of Nnamdi Iro Orji of the Labour Party (LP) and Mao Ohuabunwa of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), for lacking in merit.

The verdict elicited jubilation in Abia North as some people were seen in small groups discussing their senator’s victory at the Court of Appeal, while others were seen drinking in beer parlours.

A man who gave his name as Iro and hails from Ohafia in Ohafia Local Government Area said they were celebrating Kalu’s victory because of what he has done for them since he went to the Senate.

“We are celebrating Kalu’s victory because It is a well known fact that those who were contesting the seat against him, will not be able to do half of what Kalu has achieved for the people of Abia North in the Senate so far.

“Any new road built in Ohafia in the last four years, was attracted by Senator Kalu, the same thing with the renovation of schools.”
