President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially approved the appointment of Folashade Arinola Adekaiyaoja as the new Deputy Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS).
This landmark decision marks the first time a sitting president has made such an appointment, receiving widespread accolades from both current and former DSS officers, who view it as a vital step towards restoring professionalism within the agency.
DailySun gathered that the presidential approval aims to restructure the DSS for enhanced operational efficiency in line with its original mandate.
The DSS is originally structured to include three deputy directors general within its hierarchy, making this appointment particularly notable.
The appointment and ratification by the President, according to elated operatives of the Agency, was based on the recommendation of the DG, through the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.
This unprecedented move aligns with the DSS’s regulatory framework and has sparked celebrations among personnel who believe Adekaiyaoja is exceptionally qualified for her new role
A native of Kogi State, Adekaiyaoja’s appointment is seen as a promising development by a diverse group of officers and operatives eager for leadership that prioritises competence and integrity.
It was also learnt that Tinubu had, in line with his commitment to enhancing the security, challenged heads of security agencies to propose improvements in their service delivery.
A security source revealed that It was on this note, that the President approved the DG’s recommendation, which many serving and retired officers are confident will boost career progression in the Service
During the investiture ceremony for the National Institute for Security Studies (NISS) Executive Intelligence Management Course 17 graduates last December, Tinubu reiterated his support for the DSS and other security agencies, promising to equip them with state-of-the-art, Artificial Intelligence-powered technology to combat the pressing issues of insecurity in the nation.
Acknowledging the contemporary security challenges, the President emphasised the need for all security agencies to collaborate for the welfare of Nigerians.
The newly appointed Director-General of the DSS, Mr. Oluwastosin Ajayi, who took office in late August 2024, has vowed to implement sweeping reforms within the organisation.
He assured that these changes would elevate the DSS into one of the most efficient covert security agencies globally, further solidifying the agency’s critical role in national security.
