Gary Cornish, a former opponent of Anthony Joshua, has been forced to retire from boxing.

Medical issues have seen the British Boxing Board of Control deny him a licence once the results came back from his brain scan.

The towering Scotsman, who is 31 years old, finishes his career with a 25-2 professional record.

He has fought for the British heavyweight title, losing a 12 round decision to Sam Sexton in 2017. He met a future world champion when he boxed Anthony Joshua in 2015. Joshua won his first significant title, the Commonwealth belt, when he knocked Cornish out in the first round at a raucous O2 Arena.   “It is an expert’s advice not to box, so I have to deal with it,” Cornish told BBC Scotland. ”You put your life in danger every time you step in through the ropes so, but they are covering themselves and I respect that.   “This is what I’ve done for over 10 years. Nobody, unless they’ve done it, knows what that buzz is like, being in the ring, and to know I won’t be back is devastating.”
