Benfica manager, Jose Mourinho has revealed how his father’s counsel prevented him from a huge mistake at the beginning of his managerial career.
The former Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester United manager made the revelation in an interview with Portuguese media platform Jogo de Palavra, via Barca Universal.
Mourinho was an assistant manager at Barcelona under Sir Bobby Robson in 1996 and left the club in 2000.
Three years later, he would win the UEFA Cup with Porto and the UEFA Champions League a season after.

The 63-year-old tactician has gone on to become unarguably one of the best managers ever.
He hinged his career success on heeding his father’s advice at the beginning.
Mourinho said, “When I was Barça’s assistant, Braga called me. I told my father I wanted to leave, but he told me to be sensible. That my opportunity would come, whether it was Braga, Guimaraes, or any other team in Portugal.”
He said he remains grateful to his father for his guidance.
Mourinho said, “He told me I had to make the most of my time at Barça to learn what it was like to coach great players. Thank goodness I listened to him.”
